Natural Light, Artificial Light or Mixed Light?

Did I just say,  I love what I do?

My business model affords me a great variety of jobs, creativity and people.  One aspect. the Professional Head Shots I create for models, artists and actors.  I have both a natural light studio and a commercial studio with artificial lights, both strobe and constant.  This set up allows me the flexibility to use different light to bring out the best features of a model as well as create mood or style.  I'm also not limited to the personality of Cincinnati weather! 

Lovely Vanessa walked into my studio and I was stunned by her unique beauty. I wanted to capture her ability to do both Fashion and Lifestyle work in order to give her the widest range for potential work.  A lot of my model work comes through the wonderful agents at the Artist Agency, Heyman Talent http://www.heymantalent.com.  They represent models, actors, voiceover artists and more from all over the country, from Cincinnati, New Orleans,

2014 The Importance of Being Earnest

Writing doesn't come easy to me but it has obviously become a necessity if you own your business.  Word of mouth can only get you so far but what I"m learning is people want to get a "feel" for who you are before they hire you.  I'm a little shy so I understand why it might be easier to check out a blog post or Facebook page and learn something a little more before calling them.   Maybe see what they look like and get a hint of personality.

I am a professional first and foremost, easy going and smile a lot. Its important to me that you are as comfortable in my studio as you would be in your own home and like my work.  I enjoy what I do and it spills over into the excitement of any photo session whether its a custom portrait, model portfolio or commercial catalog.  I think when one loves what they do, everything they do is taken to heart, is personally valued and is of great importance. To this end I am dedicated to my photography.

I will earnestly try my best to keep my blog post rolling this year.  I have the greatest admiration of those who can publish their blogs, man their Facebook pages, tweet a thought, run their businesses and households, take care of their parents, pets and children, work out, text, answer all of their emails, grab lunch with a friend and still catch "The Good Wife"!  You peeps are my inspiration!

Glamour Revolution

There is a glamour revolution going on!!

I've been brining this genre back into my business and it is so exciting. However, I want to clarify - it is definitely NOT that 80's soft focus and pink feather boa "glamour" style photography you are having a flash back of as you read these words, "Glamour Photography". This is classic, contemporary portrait photography with what I call, a fashion twist.  It is timeless and reflects the kind of poses and lighting you've seen in glamour magazines                f o r e v e r.

Even if you google, "glamour photography" chances are you will still get something quite different than  what I'm appealing to in my work. I don't think there is a real word for what describes it other than its a new take on an old idea.  Its fresh, its exciting, its modern and its for women of all ages.  Soft, beautiful flattering light.  No vaseline on the lens and no feather boas.   Who wouldn't like their own private glam session, get hair and make up done followed up with a photo shoot?  Most women haven't ever had a make over much less a photo shoot.

I think part of what I love about this work is that these women walk into the studio and are transformed.
I'm not talking about just the hair and make up. There is sparkle, a light that goes on that shines, an energy shift and confidence they start to believe what I already see, that they are beautiful. There is a release, the shoulders relax, they start to have fun and let go. Its not what happened to them on the outside but the beauty they discovered within. Therein lies the magic.  Wow, I just love when that happens!!

I'm so excited to be creating a new website for my photography! The Contemporary Beauty and Glamour Portrait Photique is finally featured! Its been so rewarding watching all the hard work come together after what seems like eons. I am more than grateful for the generosity of my friends, the incredible people I've been inspired and guided by, the amazing talent of my support team of make up artists, models vols and marketing peeps. So, Gina, Jeanne, Sue, Lilly, Barbie, Laura, Leticia, Clodagh, Halley, Laura B, Kara, so many more - THANK YOU!!!

One beautiful image Three ways of seeing

Fabulous photo session with Kara a few weeks ago gave a perfect example of how one image can have a range of visual treatments and still be utterly fantastic! Warm Tones, Black and White or Color
- any of these style treatments can be ordered of your favorite images. I'll be posting more from this session soon! Kara is incredible!

PS- Kara is NOT a model! You wouldn't know it, but she felt like a Super Model that day and looks it!!
